The July event was held July 13 at the club field in Columbus. We did a pot luck picnic and fun fly event. This generated a lot of activities!
- Bob brought out his hi-start. He and Dick were flying several gliders from it. Really cool to see the way they climb and launch with this setup. Bob was also flying his motorized Yellowjacket 2M RES ship, and Dick was flying a couple drones and a Libelle (?) I think.
- Doug brought his Art Hobby Endura 2M glider. This ship flies very well and can easily thermal with the big boys! Doug was also busy photographing the fun.
- Andre Czeczel of Art Hobby turned out, but forgot his models! It was great to visit with him though and hear the latest on his new home and business shop construction.
- Scott was flying a couple of powered models, including his very nice Citabria tow plane. He and I also tried some aero tow, with mixed results. It is a little more difficult than it looks! I think the key is very smooth flying by both pilots, using reasonable throttle settings, having a flight plan in advance and good communication on the tow.
- I brought my Euphoria that is set up for XC out. Last flight on it was at the 2022 NATS! Wow! I need to fly this nice model more!!! Flying at 86 ounces for speed in XC, it still thermals very well. It’s also fun playing with the vario, altimeter and battery monitoring capabilities set up on this ship. At one point I poached an eagles’ thermal and we continued to climb out together. The bird didn’t seem flustered at all!
Our picnic consisted of sloppy joes, deviled eggs, fruit, pumpkin bread, lemon bread and brownies. All delicious! Thanks to all for a good time.
I will post photos to the RCG Montana ALES thread.
Until next month, keep the fuselage level! ;^ )
