<div dir="auto">F3L is two-meter wingspan limited to rudder, elevator, and spoiler controls, but there are further airframe construction limitations than the traditional AMA RES class. Fuselage forward of the wing trailing edge, and all flying surfaces must be constructed without composite or molded components, except for spars. Like F3J, the fuselage cannot have any protrusions on the bottom, other than the tow hook (e.g. no skegs and no rudder or fin below the tailboom). Also, the high starts are limited to a maximum of 4kg (8.8lb) pull at 3× extension, which means the airframes tend to be quite a bit lighter than typical for AMA RES, which is most often launched by electric winch.<div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I was going to include a link to the FAI Sporting Code rulebook, but the website isn't loading for me at the moment.<br><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Hope that helps.<br><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Duane Beck from VA</div><div dir="auto">Wazmo on RCgroups</div></div></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Jul 24, 2024, 8:15 PM Greg via MT-ALES <<a href="mailto:mt-ales@lists.webworks.net">mt-ales@lists.webworks.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><u></u>

Is FAI/F3L the exact same as what is typically run in the US as RES
class? 2m wingspan, rudder, elevator, spoiler only, launched by
surgical tubing high start ?<br>
<br>
Or are there other differences ? Flying anythibng 2M is very
challenging, especially in typical Muncie, IN wind and weather.<br>

Congrats to Jon.<br>
